This format has been hugely enjoyed and we are now offering this Ancestors family history tour to those who receive our brochure, many of whom first developed an interest in the Great War because of their family's involvement. We will visit some of the most important places from WW1 on the Somme battlefield, including the great Memorial to the Missing at Thiepval; however the itinerary will be designed around the requests you make to visit a particular battlefield area, cemetery or memorial, because of its importance in your family's history. So if you book early, this will become part of the Somme tour itinerary.
This Ancestors family history tour of the Somme will be led by military historian Jon Cooksey, author of numerous books on the First World War and a man who has in depth knowledge of the ground and the battles. Jon hopes people will send him plenty of information in advance about forbears who fought on and around the Somme, so that he can integrate their family interests into the programme. One of the pleasures of this type of battlefield tour is the sharing of experience with like minded travellers as you visit these evocative places and learn more of their history.
This Ancestors family history tour will begin with a visit to the National Archives at Kew, an important place for anyone building a family tree, doing genealogical research or researching their family history.
