Following our successful WW2 Peenemünde tour, we continue the story of the Second World War German offensive 'V' weapons and the Atlantic Wall. Concrete, steel and labour - the ingredients of Adolf Hitler's plan for European domination by the end of the 1940s. A plan for the Third Reich to last 1,000 years. Hundreds of concrete bunkers, minefields and antitank obstacles were built to secure the Western Europe coastline and prevent invasion by the Allies. Monolithic constructions to hide and launch the 'V' weapons. Dreams of an impregnable wall and an unstoppable rocket assault - both dreams destined to fail in 1944. The Atlantic Wall and the terror weapon sites overrun by the allies after 'D-Day'.
We examine the colossal engineering and scientific effort expended to make the unthinkable a reality. The anthills of building sites and the brooding remains. We explore the great rocket sites designed for V2 and the smaller V1 sites, the Cross Channel gun batteries and a German forward airfield. Museums, tunnels, casemates and bunker. We examine how Hitler's policy of divide and rule between his Military forces and the Todt organisation, contributed greatly to the failure of both programmes.
A tour of concrete and technology, World War Two V Weapons and the Atlantic Wall with John Grimwood as your guide.
Please note, this battlefield tour will contain some rough ground walking.
