Rome

Our School tour to Rome combines politics and culture, a city linked to all periods of history from classical times to the turmoil of WWII.

VATICAN
Visit the Vatican with Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel, the official residence of the Pope, in the Vatican City. Its fame rests on its architecture, which evokes Solomon's Temple of the Old Testament, its decoration, frescoed throughout by the greatest Renaissance artists, including Michelangelo whose ceiling is legendary.

BAROQUE ROME
A “Fountain walk” during which your school tour will see the “Triton Fountain” by Bernini, the famous “Trevi Fountain” the awesome “Pantheon”, and Piazza Navona where three other beautiful 17th century fountains are located, including the “Fountains of the Rivers”.

POMPEII
The victim of the world's most famous volcano disaster, Pompeii is the most important archaeological site in Europe. In a tragic day in AD 79 Mount Vesuvius erupted, and buried the town in 6m of pumice and ash. Now Pompeii offers schools the richest insight into the daily life of the Romans and parts are extraordinarily familiar - like the 89 food takeaways.

MOUNT VESUVIUS
Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano east of Naples, Italy. It is the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years, although it is not currently erupting.

FACISM & MUSSOLINI
If your school students are studying Facism and Mussolini the areas of Rome connected with this era are EUR and the Foro Italico. EUR on the southern edge of Rome is a monument to the ambitions of Mussolini and his Facist party. The new suburb was started by Mussolini in 1939 in order to host the “Esposizione Universale di Roma” in 1942 but the war intervened. The “square colisseum” is a dramatic building and along the Via Cristoforo Colombo is a classical inspired area lined with square colonnades. The Museo della Civilta Romana uses replicas and models to create a history of Rome. The Foro Italico is a great sports centre and was originally named the Foro Mussolini, begun in the late 20's and building carried on until 1960, the year of the Olympic Games held in Rome.
