Cape Town
Also known as the ‘Mother City’, Cape Town, with its majestic Table Mountain backdrop, is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront serves as the hub to the many tourist attractions that are in the city vicinity. Table Mountain offering amazing panoramic views, Castle of Good Hope being the oldest building in South Africa, Houses of Parliament, Bo-Kaap and Malay Quarter, Aquarium, South African National Gallery within the Company Gardens, are but some of the city attractions. Daily excursions also leave the V & A Waterfront for Robben Island that has an interesting history of its own. Within easy reach of the city are also beaches, Cape Point, wine estates, whale watching, and numerous other attractions and activities.
Johannesburg
For a long time after it’s birth as a gold rush boomtown in 1886, Johannesburg had to fight hard to shed its reputation for being a bawdy, brawling tent town. Today, little more than 100 years later, the city and suburbs have taken on a certain refinement, almost elegance. The Johannesburg and surrounds of the 1990’s is alive with world-class theatre, art, entertainment, shopping and events of many kinds, making it a warm-hearted area that lives with gusto and has earned the title of South Africa’s ‘Golden City’.
Pretoria
Gauteng’s two major cities are just 50km apart, but could hardly be more different. Pretoria has been the epitome of staid traditionalism, with its graceful government buildings, wide avenues of purple flowering jacarandas and staunchly Boer farming origins. Pretoria is near enough to Johannesburg’s airport to provide a practical alternative base for exploring Gauteng.
Durban
Durban, the gateway to the Kwazulu-Natal Province and is famed for its wide sandy beaches and superb surfing in the warm Indian Ocean. Durban-Ethekweni is a vibrant African city, a city that merges with perfect harmony the rustic simplicity of Africa and the modern sophistication of an international business centre. Durban offers a sub-tropical carnival atmosphere, endless summers, an effervescent ocean lined with golden beaches and thousands of pleasure options. The city is an intriguing blend of East, West and Africa. “Durban – where the fun never sets!”
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga meaning ‘Place of the Rising Sun’ is the gateway to the Kruger National Park but is often overlooked. The area includes the Klein Drakensberg escarpment, picturesque and historic towns such as Pilgrims Rest, Sabie, Graskop and Barberton as well as the spectacular Blyde River Canyon.
Kruger National Park
The Kruger National Park is one of the most famous wildlife parks in the world as well as one of the biggest and oldest – established in 1898 by Paul Kruger. The Kruger has one of the greatest varieties of animals in Africa including the ‘Big Five’, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino as well as cheetahs, giraffes, hippos and many species of antelope.
