Berlin - 20th Century History (by coach)
Berlin On this tour we discover the 20th Century history of this great City. A city that presided over the rise of National Socialism and the subjugation of much of Europe, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler. Germany was rising mighty from the ashes of the First World War and Berlin was being rebuilt as a suitable Capital city for an all powerful Germany.

Then in 1939 came the Second World War. Berlin went from triumph to disaster in under 6 years. Much of the city was destroyed by the Allied air campaign and the relentless onslaught of the Russians in 1945. Hitler took his own life in the Fuhrerbunker under the gardens of the Reich’s chancellery and peace returned.

Then Berlin was split into 4 sectors - British, American, Russian and French. We look at those momentous years of East and West, spies, espionage and propaganda. The Berlin airlift and the building of the ‘Wall’. The fall of Communism and the ‘Wall’

The Berlin we now visit is united, prosperous and exciting - but the shadows of the past are always just around the corner!

Please see below for this tour by air.

Berlin - 20th Century History (by air)

This tour should be read in conjunction with the Berlin by coach tour(ABOVE) and is suitable for Schools who would prefer to travel by air and are willing to make their own flight arrangements.

Berlin is well served by the London and other UK airports. You will be met by your coach and guide at your Berlin airport.

As with the Berlin by Coach tour we can tailor it to your requirements. You will need a minimum of 4 days and can visit any of the sites shown in the Berlin by Coach Tour. Of course the tour can be extended to any length required by you.

For schools who would prefer to spend more time at sites associated with the Holocaust we could add a long day trip to the ‘V’ weapon factory and Concentration Camp in tunnels at Nordhausen, (also known as Mittelbau Dora). We can also visit the camp at Sachsenhausen, north of Berlin or the Women’s camp at Ravensbruck. As with the coach option we can also offer a day trip to the notorious Colditz Castle prisoner of war camp, south of Leipzig.
