Suggested Itineraries
| One day tour of Ypres. This is only viable for schools within a two and a half hour drive of Folkestone (about 150 miles). After an early start from school, cross the Channel via EuroTunnel to arrive in Ypres late morning for your booked visit to ‘In Flanders Fields’ museum. Time to look round Ypres before meeting your guide for a three hour tour of the Ypres Salient (including Tyne Cot, Langemark and Essex Farm). Visit ‘Sanctuary Wood’ museum with its trenches, often the highlight for the students, before the return to school in the late evening. |

One day tour of the Somme. This is only viable for schools within a one and a half hour drive of Folkestone (about 90 miles). The drive down to the Somme battlefield area takes about two hours from Calais and upon arrival in Peronne a visit is booked at the ‘Historial de la Grande Guerre’ museum. There is a lunchroom here that can be booked. In the early afternoon meet your guide for a four hour tour of the Somme Battlefield sites (including Delville Wood, Thiepval, Newfoundland Park and Lochnagar Crater).

Two day tour to Ypres and the Somme. This is suitable for schools within a one and a half hour drive of Folkestone (about 90 miles). This combines the one day tours to Ypres and the Somme with an overnight stay in hostel accommodation in the Ypres area, on a full board basis. The group will visit the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate on the first evening.

Two day tour to Ypres OR the Somme. These tours are suitable for all schools and combine the features of the one day tours spread over two days to allow for extra travelling time. It is possible where the extra time is not required to extend the visit to include, for example, Poperinghe and Talbot House in the Ypres area and Serre (the Pals Battalions) on the Somme. One night's full board accommodation is provided in either the Ypres area or Arras.

Three day tour to Ypres AND the Somme.
This is suitable for schools within a five hour drive from Folkestone (about 300 miles). After an early start from school arrive in Ypres early afternoon for a three hour guided tour of the battlefield sites rounded off with a visit to ‘Sanctuary Wood’ museum. After checking into your hostel and an evening meal return to the Menin Gate for the Last Post Ceremony. On the second day spend the morning in Ypres and visit the ‘In Flanders Fields’ museum and then travel down to the Somme for a guided tour. Visit Delville Wood, Thiepval, Newfoundland Park and the Musee Somme 1916 before staying at a hotel in Arras. If preferred stay a second night in the Ypres area. On the third morning visit Vimy Ridge. It is possible to book tours of the Tunnels between 1st May and 30th November (subject to availability). These tours are very popular and need to be booked well in advance. Leave in the early afternoon for the journey back to Calais and onwards to school.

Four day tour to Ypres AND the Somme. This is suitable for schools within a seven hours drive from Folkestone (about 450 miles). After an early start arrive in Ypres in the afternoon to visit the ‘In Flanders Fields’ Museum. Check into your school hotel in the Ypres area for your evening meal. Spend the second day in the Ypres area with a tour of the battlefield and a visit to ‘Sanctuary Wood’ Museum and in the afternoon visit Poperinghe and Talbot House. A second night is spent in the Ypres area before driving down to the Somme on the third morning. Visit the ‘Historial de la Grande Guerre’ or ‘Musee Somme’ in Albert and meet your guide for a four-hour tour of the Somme Battlefield. The night is spent in Arras and on the last morning visit Vimy Ridge. Leave in the early afternoon for Calais and the onward journey back to school.
