Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare Country)



The birthplace of William Shakespeare, set on the banks of the river Avon, has so much to offer a school tour. Combine a visit to Stratford with a performance by the famous Royal Shakespeare Company with the famous sites connected with Shakespeare's life and family.
The Royal Shakespeare Company
The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre are home to the internationally recognised Royal Shakespeare Company. The RSC performs the works of both classical and contemporary writers as well as Shakespeare productions.
The Shakespeare Houses and The Shakespeare Centre
Five beautiful houses and gardens brought to life by enthusiastic guides. Visit Shakespeare's Birthplace to see where William Shakespeare was born and learn what it was like for him growing up as a boy. Walk along to Chapel Street to see Nash's House, which was owned by Shakespeare's granddaughter's first husband - Thomas Nash. Discover Hall's Croft the family abode of Susanna, his daughter, and her esteemed husband Dr John Hall and learn about the 17th century medical practices and ghostly goings on. Take a short trip out of Stratford-upon-Avon to Anne Hathaway's Cottage where William wooed his bride to be. Mary Arden's House and the Shakespeare Countryside Museum is a few miles further where school students can experience 500 years of farming and rural life.

 
Shakespearience
An exciting introduction to some of William Shakespeare's greatest works as well as his life and legacy using the latest technology and special effects. Situated at Waterside Theatre, a new venue for theatrical, cultural and musical events in Stratford-upon-Avon.

River Avon Cruisers
A 45 minute sightseeing cruise on modern passenger boats. Take in the 15th century Clopton Bridge, Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Holy Trinity Church the site of William Shakespeare's Tomb.

The Falstaff Experience
One of Stratford upon Avon's most exciting and unusual tourist attractions, which offers an educational yet fun journey through time. The museum is in the 16th century Shrieves House Barn and this haunted museum offers an informative yet theatrical glimpse into history, from the most glorious to the ghastly and the hilarious to the haunting.

Warwick Castle
Warwick Castle, where you can experience a thousand years of history in one day. There is so much for a school group to do and see here from 'Kingmaker', showing how Richard Neville's household prepared for battle, to the 'Ghost Tower' where Sir Fulke Greville was fatally stabbed by his manservant and 'Death or Glory' the new look armoury. The 'Royal Weekend Party' recreates a Weekend Party of 1898 where 'Daisy', Countess of Warwick, welcomed her principal guest, the Prince of Wales.

Blenheim Palace
Blenheim Palace is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and home of the 11th Duke of Marlborough. Just 45 minutes from Stratford-upon-Avon this beautiful palace is situated in the historic town of Woodstock.

A Suggested Two-Day Tour
Day 1  Early coach transfer from school to Stratford-upon-Avon. Check into your hostel. Early dinner. Transfer by coach to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre for your evening performance.
Day 2  Days excursion in Stratford - Including Shakespeare's Birthplace and exhibition, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Mary Arden's House, Hall's Croft & Nash's House. Board your coach and return to school.
