North Sea Crossing
After arriving in Zeebrugge and an early breakfast on the ferry, we collect our packed lunches and continue our journey into Belgium.
Our first stop of the day will be at the For Freedom Museum in Knocke-Heist. Here we see life-size reconstructions portraying the liberation of Belgium and discuss the history of this period. Students will also have the opportunity to handle WW2 objects and equipment.
Moving on, we will look at the battlefield along the canals in this area, visiting an original Second World War Bailey Bridge, and seeing where the Canadians attacked German forces in a concrete bunker line using flamethrowers and assault boats. Here we have our lunch.
In the evening, we will check into our accommodation in Ypres and enjoy an evening meal in a local restaurant. (We can also attend the moving Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate at Ypres, which takes place at 8 pm every evening to commemorate the fallen of WW1. We can organise for your school to participate in this (wreath to be supplied by school)).
